I. PURPOSE AND MISSION:

The Analytical Chemist is responsible for setting up, testing, documenting and training users for the analytical equipment used in the quality control laboratories at all Gemini locations. This includes updating methods and procedures.

This function is responsible for testing most of the products and raw materials in Grand Prairie on the FTIR and or gas chromatograph.

II. EXPECTATIONS:

This position will work with other departments such as customer service, operations and R&D to satisfy customer complaints and production needs.

Set up and document procedures for testing all types of products on the FTIR & GC.

Communicate with the Formulating Chemists on all new products going to production.

Bring attention to his/her supervisor of all situations that compromise quality.

Listen to others needs about product time frames yet make quality decisions.

Be able to run all quality control equipment.

All analytical equipment will be kept in working order through maintenance and stocking necessary equipment.

Attend annual GC/IR related courses.

Continue to research new analytical equipment and procedures to ensure that Gemini is always ahead of the competition.

Possess a high work ethic, moral and personal integrity and honesty.

Be mature, flexible and self-motivated.

Exemplify professionalism in personal appearance, manner and dress according to acceptable standards set by the company.

Have or gain an understanding of Open Book Management, and manage by the principles thereof.

III. AUTHORITY:

The Analytical Chemist is granted the necessary authority to manage, direct and administer the operations of Gemini Industries, Inc. under the control of this position. This authority includes, but may not be limited to:

With adequate information this position may stop production of a product because of his/her concerns.

IV. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Plan, organize, and set up the testing of all film forming products through the FTIR.

Create the FTIR library for all resins and solvents that we use. As the R&D receives new raw materials these products will be entered into the FTIR. This will enable searches.

Create multi-calibration in the FTIR for all resin that are applicable.

Design, document, and set up testing procedures for all different types products using the gas chromatograph. This will include as many solvent separations as possible including the incorporation of solvents used in new products.

Test products and raw materials as they come into the lab.

Create procedural/operating instruction for all QC analytical equipment.

Communicate with and mentor all technicians using analytical equipment. This means the Analytical Chemist is responsible for the results of all-analytical testing.

Keep the QC organized and clean at all times.

Performs other job related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time by management.

Qualifications


QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to meet and accomplish the following. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the Analytical Technician function.

Education: A four-year college degree in chemistry or a related field is required.

Experience: At least 1 year of hands on analytical testing is required.

Skills/Knowledge: The Analytical Chemist must:

Be able to work math problems with percentages and ratios.

Must know the metric system for conversion

Be able to produce results with little direct supervision.

Be able to run and maintain a GC, FTIR, and GCMS.

Be able to operate Microsoft Office software products.

An in-depth understanding of the differences in chemistry of the products.

Be able communicate between departments and remain objective.
